The Mátra Power Plant near Visonta that can be spotted from a distance can be visited by arranging an appointment in advance. It is not everyday experience to walk among such huge industrial giants.
One of the largest power plants operated by coal in Hungary has 930 MW performance. It transforms local energy resources primarily lignite into electricity. The unique sight of the flue gas desulphurisation system in the Heller-Forgó cooling tower is a must for the visitors and it is worth the efforts. It can be seen from a lookout tower in the area of the power plant created for the visitors. The monotony of the huge external pits at our feet is broken by the giant special excavating machines.
